how does Monarch support the community?

Monarch Airlines has actively supported Macmillan Cancer Support, our charity partner, for over fifteen years. During this time we have donated over £2m, thanks to the generosity of our passengers. This figure has been achieved by collecting foreign coins on all inbound services.

Macmillan is best known for its nurses, who are specialists in cancer care. They offer expert advice on treatment and are skilled in pain and symptom management, as well as giving general support to people with cancer.

Macmillan Cancer Support also funds doctors, a nursing and medical education programme, buildings for cancer treatment and care, and grants to people in sickness-related financial difficulties.

supporting the local community

Monarch Airlines and our sister company, Monarch Aircraft Engineering, have been based at London Luton Airport since 1968. We've become one of the area's leading employers and take a keen interest in our community - forging strong relationships with local schools, colleges and charities, both in and around Luton and other regional bases.

local charities

As well as working with Macmillan Cancer Support, we've built close ties with local charities. In recent years, we have actively supported the Pasque Hospice, and the new children's Keech Cottage Hospice. Both hospices are based in Luton and provide care and support for terminally ill people.

Our involvement includes donating flights and resources - as well as organising a range of regular staff fundraising activities and events. Monarch is also represented on the committees of these various charities.

schools and colleges

We've built close ties with several local schools and colleges. Our Director of Personnel is a governor of Ashcroft High School in Luton, and the company regularly donates prizes for annual awards ceremonies.

In recent years, the company has also supported a number of initiatives, including Fair Play for Equal Rights, Personnel Liaison, Government Office for Eastern Religion and Bedfordshire Employers' Equality Network.

what about the environment?

At all times, Monarch Airlines aims to be as environmentally friendly as possible - and to minimise disturbance to those who live near our airports. We have invested in a modern fleet of aircraft, with excellent fuel-efficiency and low emission levels. This reduces environmental damage and ensures a more efficient usage of fuel resources.

Our aircraft also qualify for the 'quieter noise' categories as governed by the Department for Transport.
